Between A Parked Spaceship And A Woodworking Station On The MCA Roof | Thursday Evening

It had occured to April this morning that she'd never actually been to the roof of her apartment building. Of course, "morning" for April on a day that she didn't have to work was, like, two o'clock, so it didn't really take her all that long before she actually made good on it.

By the time she made it up there, the sun was setting, and she had dinner in the sense that a pizza she'd bought on Sunday had been living in her fridge for the past half a week, so she figured she might as well bring what was left of it up to the roof (still in the pizza box, of course -- who bothered with plates?) and work on it there. The spaceship~~(s)~~ and woodworking station meant there wasn't a lot of room, but if she hung out by the ledge and used that for a table, she was fine.

Huh. This was kinda nice.

"I'll mark it in the calendar," Jono decided, finishing that slice of pizza and contemplating a second. "As... some sort of small victory for my self-esteem."

His self-esteem kind of needed it, sometimes.

"Hell yeah." On anyone else, the monotone might have reduced the impact of the words, but you know what, it was April. This had to be expected at this point. "Blog it or something."

"I'd need a blog for that," Jono pointed out, shrugging. "Kitty was horrified the other week when she took it upon herself to walk me through using Google."

It had been surprisingly user-friendly!

... Though the basketball game thing had been somewhat distracting.

"You don't know how to Google?"

"I do," Jono replied, smiling wryly. "Type what you want to look for, hit the button. I'd be ashamed of myself if I couldn't figure out a website that had all of two options to choose from."

It was the rest of the internet that gave him trouble, generally.

"I know my way around YouTube as well."

So he knew the essentials.

"Good." April paused. "I should do a lesson on that in my class. Googling shit."

"What class are you teaching, if you don't mind my asking?"

Jono's curiosity, right there. See it? See how invested he was in finding out what sort of class would cover Google?

"'How to Not Do Things.'"

Get it now, Jono? Get it?

Jono was... kind of getting it. A little, maybe?

"Because if you're busy on the internet, you might not have to... do other things?"

Look, he was trying, here.

April sighed. "If you have a job, someone might ask you to do something pointless," she explained tonelessly. "If you Google it, you'll probably find someone else who's done it already."

"I suppose that would depend on the job," Jono mused, "but yes, I suppose so."

He couldn't think of any job in particular where Google would have saved him, but then, maybe he just hadn't been doing it right from the start.

April shrugged. "Google solves everything."

Jonothon tilted his head a little, contemplating the pizza. And contemplating the little town sprawled out below them.

"Can Google get us some beer?"

"Probably. If you Googled places around here that deliver."

April, you lived right downstairs.

"...Or we could go inside."

"Which is less effort?"

Jono had to check, here. He wasn't really in a mood for effort, today.

April shrugged. "It's waiting versus stairs."

Downstairs, though. That had to mean something.

Jono considered this for a moment more, and then shrugged right back.

"Might as well make it stairs, then. By the time we find some place that delivers to rooftops, the pizza will be gone, anyhow."

And that would be the saddest thing of all.

April shot a little finger-gun in his direction. "Smart."

After closing the pizza box in the absolute most careless possible way, she headed for the stairs. "My place is a lot grosser than yours," she warned.

"You didn't see inside my bedroom," Jono countered as he followed her, as though perhaps that excused anything and everything.

... Really, it sort of did.

"I'm not terribly concerned."

Well, April wasn't planning on letting him see hers either, so that evened out nicely. "There might be a mynock," she added. "Or a family of 'em."

She didn't even know what they were apart from the fact that Atton had said they flocked toward messes. April was just being April.

"I have no idea what that means," Jonothon mused. "So I'll consider this an educational experience, if we encounter any."

Yes. That would make all of this effort worthwhile.

"Yup," said April, pulling open the door that led to the second floor and heading through it. "They're supposed to be like scarier, hungrier rats."

That was not true.

"This'll take me right back to some of the scummier, nastier holes I've lived in over the years, then," Jono mused. "Like coming home."

Not quite.

... But close.

Shooting him a glance just to check and coming away satisfied that he'd been suitably warned, April pushed open her apartment door.

It was... somewhat horrifying, yeah.

Jono peered inside. And then he shrugged a little when nothing leapt up to attack him right away.

"You couldn't find my room for the boxes and magazines, back when I was living in Massachusetts," he shared. "There were empty food containers strewn about, as well."

Those hadn't been his.

"I've seen worse."

He'd also lived in a dank, dark basement with no windows. So.
