Between A Parked Spaceship And A Woodworking Station On The MCA Roof | Thursday Evening

It had occured to April this morning that she'd never actually been to the roof of her apartment building. Of course, "morning" for April on a day that she didn't have to work was, like, two o'clock, so it didn't really take her all that long before she actually made good on it.

By the time she made it up there, the sun was setting, and she had dinner in the sense that a pizza she'd bought on Sunday had been living in her fridge for the past half a week, so she figured she might as well bring what was left of it up to the roof (still in the pizza box, of course -- who bothered with plates?) and work on it there. The spaceship(s) and woodworking station meant there wasn't a lot of room, but if she hung out by the ledge and used that for a table, she was fine.

Huh. This was kinda nice.

"You suppose so?" Jono pursed his lips, thinking that over, too. And then he shrugged. "Well, if you ever do want to give it a try, best to not do it alone."

... She'd probably be hilarious while stoned.

"I don't think you need it, but what do I know?"

She would, Jono. She really, really would.

"Next week?" she offered. "First week of teaching kind of calls for it."

Oh, hell. What did he really have to lose?

"Next week," Jono replied with a shrug. "Provided you can get your hands on some that's clean."

"Eh, I'll figure it out." Someone in Baltimore was bound to have stuff, right? "But yeah. Cool."

She was actually a little bit... intrigued, almost. That was rare for April.

"If you get yourself arrested," Jono shared, "I reserve the right to laugh at you."

And then he'd probably post her bail. But still.

"You'd better not," she told him. Totally menacingly, rly. "Or I'll... make a really serious face at you."

YEAH.

"I find myself utterly terrified," Jono deadpanned. And then he shrugged and reached for another piece of pizza. "I don't know what I shall do, if somebody gives me a serious face. Perhaps I will curl up someplace and cry."

No. Not likely.

Hey now, Jono. Don't be so hasty. That serious face might include sad girl eyes.

"Only if you wear mascara while you do it," April decreed. "I'd like to see that."

"We'll negotiate that," Jono decided, allowing himself a little smirk, "provided you get yourself arrested. You need to get something out of the experience, after all."

A beat.

"Please don't get arrested."

"I dunno," April said, almost playfully. What madness was this? "I have this superpower of being able to instantly make cops suspicious of me."

"Oh, really? You know, I have that exact same superpower?" Jonothon lifted his beer and grinned at that. "We could almost start a team, with that. Though I suppose we'd need uniforms."

He already had a uniform.

It had a kilt. And a really, really long scarf.

"They'd have to be leather," said April, who had probably never worn leather in her life. Except of the shoe variety. "Or those pants with the chains from Hot Topic."

...That'd be a look.

"I don't think I could bring myself to wear Hot Topic," Jono replied, raising an eyebrow. "But I do know a few biker supply shops that could provide the leather..."

Look, when you wore as much leather as Jono used to, you learned these things.

"This shocks me," April informed him in a deadpan. "See? Shocked."

"Utterly stunned, I can tell," Jono replied, looking maybe a bit smug. "Better leather than tights, at any rate."

April could believe that. She really could, because-- "Well, with tights you have to shave."

"... True."

A beat.

"The tights they had me in were leather, too."

So it hadn't been all that bad.

"Ah." Yeah, that was better. "Did you get a leather cape to match?"

Because it wasn't worth it if he didn't get a cape.

"Er... no. Capes are generally reserved for heroes who can fl- No."

Just because he could fly now, didn't mean he was going to stoop to that.

The scarf was different. Shit your mouth.

April raised her eyebrows at him.

Yeah, Jono. Yeah.

Jono was going to return that look with his arms crossed over his chest as best as he could considering there was beer in one hand and pizza in another.

"I don't need a cape, April. You're more than welcome to wear one, though."

Even if she couldn't fly. Sigh.

"I can't fly," April pointed out. Reasonably, if you asked her. "Unless you do piggyback rides."

"Brilliant. You can wear the cape, I'll do the flying, and if I'm ever in a mood I can just carry you about by your ankles."

... He wouldn't. He was kinder than that, at least by a little.
