Between A Parked Spaceship And A Woodworking Station On The MCA Roof | Thursday Evening

It had occured to April this morning that she'd never actually been to the roof of her apartment building. Of course, "morning" for April on a day that she didn't have to work was, like, two o'clock, so it didn't really take her all that long before she actually made good on it.

By the time she made it up there, the sun was setting, and she had dinner in the sense that a pizza she'd bought on Sunday had been living in her fridge for the past half a week, so she figured she might as well bring what was left of it up to the roof (still in the pizza box, of course -- who bothered with plates?) and work on it there. The spaceship(s) and woodworking station meant there wasn't a lot of room, but if she hung out by the ledge and used that for a table, she was fine.

Huh. This was kinda nice.

April looked around, taking in all the woodworking and spaceships.

"But it's so scenic."

That was one hundred percent sarcasm, yup.

Even if the view was pretty nice.

"If you like spaceships and aren't bothered by the occasional exhaust fume, sure," Zayne said, walking over. "Which means it's usually just me tuning up my swoop bike or getting ready for another trip back home or something."

"Mm." Very expressive, April. "It doesn't completely suck."

Wasn't she polite?

"No, the exhaust blows," Zayne joked. Before I realized he wouldn't make that joke. Dammit.

"Well, if it did, I'd just blame it on the previous owners of the building," Zayne said. "All I've done is maintain it and park my ship."

Of course, that meant he was paying the previous owners indirect compliments. He was actually polite without even trying!

"Most of the not sucking has to do with the view," April amended. Because she couldn't not be difficult, especially to someone who was being polite. "Like, the one of the rest of this island."

"Okay, then the rest of it's on the previous owners," Zayne joked. "But it is a nice benefit to being one of the taller buildings on the island. You really see a lot more than you would if you just climbed on the Perk's roof."

"No one would ever climb onto the Perk's roof," April informed him. "I heard Tino and the barista have done it there."

Was she just screwing with him? Maybe a bit.

"Tino... the guy at Caritas?" He took a quick glance toward the Causeway and felt relieved that he didn't have a good view of the Perk. "Right now I'm glad I own this building."

"Seriously," April agreed. "No one wants Tino's sweat all over their roof. I'd rather take the spaceships."

Somewhere, a guy named Jerry Gergich was feeling oddly relieved.

"That'll wash off on the next rainstorm," Zayne said. "I didn't even know they were dating. I guess I need to ask more questions when I get coffee."

"Or just listen to how the people who work there never shut up," April countered. "They all read his stupid poems. It's gross."

"He writes poems?" Zayne asked. "I take it you don't think much of them."

"He compared her ass to a toaster."

"Maybe it was a really nice toaster," Zayne offered.

"I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt that it was weird, but well-meaning," Zayne said.

He didn't know April wrote it, okay?

"It's possible. But it's apparently what Tino's looking for, which is the important thing," Zayne countered.
