The Beach, Tuesday Evening

If you asked April, the beach was a pointless, stupid place during the day but a reasonably tolerable place to drink beer at night, as long as a.) she had pregamed and b.) it wasn't freezing. Fortunately, both of those criteria were being met tonight. 

She had trekked out to the beach in a bikini and a hoodie (no pants -- half the point of going to the beach was that girls were excused from wearing pants) and now she was doing her job as a dedicated layabout by sprawling in the sand on a towel, cooler full of beer cans at the ready. 

"Guess this doesn't suck that much," she conceded as she reached for a beer.

"Oh, right, you're old," April 'recalled.' "You don't spend half your day on Facebook chat."

"I'm not old." She couldn't be arsed to even look properly offended, though. Just downed more beer. "Just like to leave that sort of thing to the pathetic fanboys."

Sarah rolled her eyes. ugh, fans. She'd never had any cool ones.

"Yes. The unwashed fucking masses of superhero fan societies."

"Are any of them, like, psycho stalker types?" April wondered. "That'd be awesome."

April cared about safety about as much as -- and would make about as good a bodyguard as -- Don.

Annnd she was getting side-eyed a lot now. Yes, even though Sarah knew people like Don.

"No. How the fuck would that be awesome?"

"Doesn't having stalkers mean you've, like, made it?" April asked, her eyebrows going on. "Plus you could just zap them."

Sarah rolled her eyes. "I don't want to 'make it' ––" Yes, with air quotes. "–– if it means weirdos sniffing through my rubbish bins."

"You could throw out explosives," April suggested. "Get a reputation as the angry hermit superhero."

... Sarah already kind of had that. Well, the angry part anyway.

"That seems like far too much trouble. I'd have to get explosives off Don or something."
